The proposed $455 million project spanning five towns in three counties would consist of 117 600-foot-tall wind turbines capable of generating 340 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 134,000 homes for a year. BEATRICE – The Gage County Planning Commission will soon consider any other potential changes that may be needed to local wind energy regulations, following the county board’s move to increase setback distance to one-mile, between wind turbines and not participating rural homes. The New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment Board Friday reaffirmed its approval of Alle-Catt Wind Energy LLC to build and operate a wind farm in Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Wyoming counties. A decision on a request by the Nihtat Gwich’in Council to prevent the construction of a wind turbine on land that is a reindeer grazing reserve is expected within the next two weeks. The council, which made the request to the Gwich’in Land and Water Board in January, said placing the 3.5-megawatt wind turbine at High Point, about 12 kilometres east of Inuvik and north of the Dempster Highway, would contravene their land agreement, according to Jozef Carnogursky, past president . . .

An updated Road Users Agreement (RUA) for the decommissioning of industrial turbines in the White Pines Wind Energy Project in Athol and South Marysburgh is on its way for approval at October’s council meeting. A group of “haenyeo,” or female divers in Jeju Island have voiced strong opposition ahead of the Jeju Provincial Council’s deliberations on the motion of the environmental impact assessment for the offshore wind farm in Gujwa-eup. An offshore wind farm project located 26 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard will be testing two possible sites in Falmouth to bring the energy to shore. The 804-megawatt project from Cambridge-based Mayflower Wind is located on the Atlantic Coast Outer Continental Shelf.
